see the world through your eyes not the camera app
Last weekend I had a trip with 4 of my relatively new girlfriends to Abisko, which is a small village in the northern Sweden. It was great - we did all sorts of activities, like ice climbing, dog sledding, visited the worlds first ice hotel that was opened the year I was born, had dinners and hiked. We saw the northern lights in all its grace. It was a wonderful weekend. But the one thing that kept my attention was the camera app being open all the time.
At first it didn't bother me - we're tourists taking a photos here and there but soon it became this documentation of every move.
I have pretty good relationship with my phone. It is totally normal for me to leave it home when going out for a hike. I rarely post anything in social media and I don't use it everyday to check what is happening there. So it really got to me. In a way I felt sad for the girls not being able to enjoy the view or moment without taking a photo of it.
Northern lights shows up more vibrant through phone or camera than in real life. But there it was clearly visible with the eye - the waving and changing, how the light was dancing and even showing bits of pink. And after 20 minutes of trying to take the perfect picture, there was a short moment for "okay, now let's take it in".
Now we are home, I have 97 pictures of me and the views of the trip, several taken in few angles. I'm not planning to post them anywhere but it is a nice keepsake that will help me to remember what we did and how was it. And I wish for everyone to experience trips, life and everyday moments through themselves, through the eyes, not the camera app and gallery view...
