Planned creativity

"There's no such thing as creative people and non-creative people. There are only people who use their creativity and people who don't." Brené Brown writes in "The Gifts of Imperfection". Arguing that if creativity is seen as a luxury or something we do when we have spare time, it will never be cultivated.

For me creativity is a way to connect to myself and allow myself to experiment. At the same time the creative process feels very unpredictable and uncertain. Almost always I have no control of the result. The only thing to do is to trust the process and bring willingness to try.

For the most part, creativity seldom 'just comes to me'. Mostly it gets stuck between expectation and overthinking, or the fear of the uncertainty of the outcome - it 'not being what I thought it would be'.

So, scheduling time for creative activities has been very helpful. It still comes with resistance and expectations that don't reflect the real outcome. But I'm shortening the resistance for showing up.

Next time, when you think of a creative thing you want to do - write it in a to-do list and show up. You never know where the inspiration will bring you. Today it brought me to write the first thing on this Bear blog. Hell yeah!
